Wickes Extra Maidstone

The Brief

ASF successfully tendered for one of Wickes largest reconfiguration projects! The brief was to downsize Wickes Extra Maidstone and reconfigure approximately 65,000sq. ft warehouse, creating a new look store and separating the space to allow for a new Lidl to go in next door. This involved demolition, construction and building a 134lmof jumbo wall to height of 11m to separate the area into two separate retail spaces.

There were numerous challenges involved in this project, and the main challenge was carrying out high risk demolition and construction within a live store. As one of Wickes’ highest turnover stores, keeping the store open and operating with as minimal disruption as possible was crucial to the success of the project. The team worked closely with the client and the store team to minimise disruption and ensure safety was the number one priority, especially during the demolition phase of the works. We successfully overcame all the issues, by working as a team and planning all phases of the work meticulously and communicating with all parties involved.

We successfully handed over the Wickes Extra store to the client on time within a 27-week project and with just 9 hours store closure during the whole period. The store is now showcasing a brand new Kitchen and Bathroom showroom; comprising of 16 kitchens and 8 bathrooms, opening up a new staff amenity block, creating a new store entrance with new steel work, curtain walling and signage as well as a jumbo wall to separate the Wickes store from the new Lidl going into the retail space created next door. Overall, this was an exciting project, with all elements of construction covered, a challenging and rewarding project for everyone to be proud of with ASF usual high quality results, that speak for themselves.
